LPG Cylinder Storage Guidelines
Test Certifiers will tell you what information they need. To guide you on what they may need, they may send you a form or checklist to complete before they visit to inspect your site. Please find below some general guidelines of what the Test Certifier will be looking at (Source: Environmental Risk Management Authority).
Up to 100 kg’s can be installed within one metre of a building provided;
- there are no openings below the top of the cylinder,
- there are no openings within one metre of the cylinder
100 to 300 kg’s can be within two metres of a building provided;
- the walls of the building behind and two metres either side of the cylinders are constructed of fire resisting materials;
- the building does not have any openings located below the top of any cylinder and within two metres of any cylinder,
- there are no drains within two metres
300 to 1,000 kg’s can be within two metres of a building provided;
- the wall of building is vapour tight,
- the wall has 60/60/60 fire resistance rating behind the cylinders and extending two metres from the end of the cylinders,
- the building does not have any openings located below the top of any cylinder and within two metres of any cylinder,
- there are no drains within two metres
Prohibited installation locations
- within a building (unless under 15.0 kg)
- under a stairway
- in a location with restricted access
- where nearby constructions, fences walls or vapour barriers prevent cross ventilation
- under buildings
- where they obstruct egress from a building
- buried or recessed below ground level
Please Note: The aforementioned rules are for guidance only, installations less than 100 kg must still comply fully with NZS 5261; 2003 and installations over 100kg must still receive a “Location Test Certificate” from a ERMA approved inspector.
