Scam Alert - fake calls requesting payment of energy accounts
Recently you may have heard about cases where fraudulent calls were made asking for payment of energy accounts. The bogus caller threatened to have the power supply cut-off or the property’s energy meter removed if payment was not made urgently. Unfortunately a number of Nova Energy’s customers’ were contacted by these fraudsters.
If you receive such a call and you are unsure whether it is genuine, then you should not make any payment. Please end the call and contact us immediately on 0800 688 236 to discuss your account status.
Before disconnecting anyone’s energy supply, Nova would give several days’ written notice and would let them know the steps to take to prevent this from happening.
Nova has worked with the New Zealand Police to investigate the fake calls our customers’ reported to us.
